i’m training for a competition in May and I’m on a really strict diet. The workouts are rough but that is not the problem, I am having a hard time sticking very striclty to this diet. I’m not cheating on the diet horribly just a bite of something here and there. . . will this really affect my result?

I’ve only been training MMA for 5 months but I’ve noticed that a lot of people, including my coach, believe that you shouldn’t do any running apart from sprinting or short high-intensity running. Am I right in saying they are all wrong? Since aerobic energy is all that is avaliable to perform exercise once your anaerobic (etc. ) energy has been depeleted, wouldn’t it make sense to increase your aerobic capacity as well as your anaerobic capacity? And isn’t running for 30 – 60 minutes at moderate to high intensity the best way to improve your aerobic capacity?

I am 80 lbs overweight and just started an exercise program of 45 minutes of intense aerobic exercise 5 days a week. Someone told me that I should do 30 minutes of aerobic and 15 minutes of weight training instead of the whole 45 minutes of aerobic, while someone else told me to stick to 45 minutes of aerobic until I drop another 30 pounds. What’s the best approach for someone with a lot of weight to lose and not a whole lot of time to spend in the gym? I want to use my time and burn calories most efficiently.
