No matter how many donations the world makes Cancer is still the number one cause of death under age 85. . . (My mother is a Cancer Survivor and I am in no way opposing donating to a cure for cancer; however I would like to make sure I am donating towards a CURE for Cancer and not towards a paid vacation for all not-for-profit organizations. )According to the financial reports of fiscal year 2006 for the American Cancer Society, Inc:Total Revenue (unrestricted): $790,066 (in thousands)Total Expenses (unrestricted): $963,532 (in thousands)Cancer Research expenses are: $136,357Fund-Raising expenses (to obtain donations): $207,333The total amount spent toward Cancer Research (to include prevention) is a measly 14. 2%!!!Does anyone have further information on this subject? I just want to make sure donations are being allocated accordingly. . . not just 14. 2%!http://www. cancer. org/downloads/AA/ACS_Combined_Financials_FY2006. pdf

Hi my name is Samantha and I am 19. Breast Cancer Fund is holding their 12th Annual Peak Hike. I will be doing the 11. 5 mile hike for breast cancer research at Mt. Tamalpais in Marin Ca. This event is to take place October 14th, 2007. I am asking for Donations. Prevention Starts Here – with your support. The Breast Cancer Fund is making groundbreaking efforts to safeguard the health of our friends and families. As breast cancer rates escalate, we are continually exposed to known or suspected cancer-causing chemicals in our food, water, air and the everyday products we use in our homes. Chemicals which were banned decades ago persist in our bodies, a shocking reminder of the environmental legacy we live with today. Your donation today allows us to demand a new approach to corporate accountability and and chemical regulation that will protect our health and prevent breast cancer and other diseases. Go to this webpage to donate, below!http://www. breastcancerfund. org/ph2007/samhollis

Some interesting quotes:Researchers at the University of Minnesota warn that two or more soft drinks a week may nearly double a person’s risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Those who reported drinking two or more soft drinks per week (60,000 men and women in the Singapore Chinese Healthy Study for 14 years) had an 87% increased risk of pancreatic cancer compared to those who didn’t drink soft drinks. The pop drinkers were averaging five drinks per week. Source: http://cebp. aacrjournals. org/content/19/2/447. abstractCancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention February 2010 19; 447
