  1. The body cannot store vitamin C therefore any that you consume in excess is simply eliminated by the kidneys. Actually kind of a waste of time to take more than the body can utilize.

  2. Wasting money as you literally urinate it away.

The toxic dose for vitamin C is extremely ridiculously high. You’d probably need more than 100g (more than a bottle) to kill yourself and you’d be nauseous long before then.

  3. Vitamin C could cause loose stools if you take too much. If this happens refrain from taking it for a day or two. Over all vitamin C is fairly safe to take. As with all medications and supplements always follow the directions on the label, they are there for a reason.

  4. there are studies in some barabngays that taking too much guava which is a source of large amount of v C is causing some stomach problems and gastrointestinal problem,,,,,..
i just dont know if this would help alittle on your question…

  5. If you’re taking the acidic type of Vitamin C, your stomach can only take so much acidity before it reacts. So you may be better off taking the non-acidic type.

But also take only the required daily amount as too much of it is wasted through your urine.

  6. the runs.
Vitamin C is water soluble so anything your body doesn’t need will be flushed down the toilet.
    A huge waste.
Of course if you feel good taking lots of vitamin C, get yourself a box of those little oranges and eat them.
You will get all the vitamin C you get now plus other micro-nutrients not in tablets.

  7. You can take a lot of vitamin C . Personally,I take 2000 mg every day and if I feel a cold, etc coming on I take much more. It helps with my allergies. It also helps with alleviating constipation. If you are really interested look up the work of Linus Pauling on Vitamin C.

  8. Vitamin C is not stored in our body systems unlike other vitamins. We need to take it in daily basis. This also acts as antioxidants to neutralize free radical in the body. But one should not take it excess as may arise side effect.

  9. Yes potentially.
I would seriously advise against doing so.
As a maintenance dose then 250-500mg is really a maximum ideal to aim for.
If you have a cold or flu then that can be increased temporarily to 1000mg but should be reduced back down to a maintenance dose after recovery.

Though vitamin C is not stored, in high doses it is not without its potential problems, which may include: gingivitis (inflammation of the gums), bleeding gums, decreased wound-healing, easy bruising, nosebleeds, weakened tooth enamel, swollen and painful joints, anaemia**, a decreased ability to fight an infection, a slowing of the metabolism that may lead to weight gain, rough, dry, scaly skin and/ or splitting hair.
[from ref: Medline Plus, link: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002404.htm ]

** regarding anaemia however, if one was to supplement with iron, one may have the opposite scenario…..i.e. too much iron stored, which could be a problem, particularly in anyone with haemochromatosis [an iron storage disease] or with a genetic tendency towards it [i.e. it was in the family].

There is also a risk of kidney stone formation in those with a tendency.

So basically, toxic levels of vitamin C in the blood over time [that may occur from taking mega doses regularly] could lead to symptoms ordinarily characteristic of a vitamin C deficiency. Such symptoms may also become apparent [even if you did not have these symptoms when taking high doses] if you were to stop taking it suddenly.

Wean yourself off the high doses in stages so you don’t display scurvy symptoms. And after this, take no more than 250-500mg a day as a maintenance dose.

    Be safe, be well….insha’Allah.
    Best wishes.
